Before Hurricane Katrina, I was never a fan of the fleur de lis, despite it being the city symbol for my home town of New Orleans (bestowed upon us by the French). But after Katrina, it became such a symbol of rebirth, rebuilding, and pride in my beloved, struggling city... so I started warming up to it. Then I learned that the fleur de lis was also the city symbol for my evacuation city, Louisville, KY, (again with the French royalty, i.e. King Louis) where I'd been welcomed with open arms and where I am still living. Well, that kinda sealed the deal for me, and I began incorporarating it into my work. I wanted a fleur de lis that wasn't terribly traditional and didn't make me think of the black-and-gold logo of the New Orleans Saints pro football team.* I eventually ended up with this slender, rounded-tip design that feels kinda retro-hip and slightly feminine, and coupled it with the word "home" in reference to both my hometowns. I hope folks in both cities can enjoy this design!

*Yes, I did eventually break down and make both black/gold and gold/black versions, in the height of Saints mania last football season, after a custom order for the color combo convinced me that it would actually look good! But it wasn't the original inspiration.
