hi. i’m margaret coble, known as mags to my friends. since the early 90s i’ve always used my nickname as my “art” name. mags was also my dj name (dj mags) for that 15 year period of my younger life when i was a club dj. i even named by pet business wags by mags! the nickname has stuck throughout my life and i generally still sign my artwork simply “mags.” hence, art by mags.
this is the website i maintain to talk about my art, my process, art in general, and hopefully very soon, to sell what i make… including paintings, prints, stickers, t-shirts, and whatever else i come up with. i used to be on etsy but i recently quit and decided to be the master of my own e-commerce. (well, for most things – i do still have a print on demand tshirt site.)
i’ve been a lifelong maker of things, writer of words, dreamer of dreams. i’ve had a few different lives as a creator in various capacities over the years, including: photo journalist, folk art furniture painter, silkscreen t-shirt printer, sign-maker, crafter of all kinds of crazy things, spray paint stencil artist, sticker freak, and more recently, abstract and mixed media painter. creating has been a constant thread through my life, even as i have alternated between focusing on it to varying degrees and stepping away from it for lengths of time.
