  • my bonfire t-shirt shop

i have a lot of things to catch up on but the first one that i’ll quickly address is that i’ve been updating my bonfire t-shirt shop.

those who’ve followed me for a while know i’ve used all manner of print-on-demand stores over the years for my graphic designs, most recently teespring (which is now just called spring). i do still have a few old designs up on teespring but they had a major technical overhaul a few years back and archived a lot of my designs and told me i’d have to start all over basically, relisting them… so i instead chose to go elsewhere. if i was gonna have to put all the effort into relisting everything, it was going to be on a different site that was less buggy and more aesthetically pleasing to look at. hence, bonfire. there are probably better print-on-demand sites than bonfire but i’ve bought several shirts from other artists via bonfire and always been happy with the quality, plus i really like their visual interface, so for now i’m happy to be there.

anyways, so given the moment we are in right now in this country, i thought it would be good to have a way to offer several of my popular protest/resistance wear designs. i know a lot of you already have these but some of you have mentioned you’ve worn yours out and many folks are new to me and my designs so maybe they will find new audiences. at this point i’ve got the classic resist, the evergreen the people united will never be defeated, and still my personal favorite, keep loving keep fighting. i have a few more to go from the vaults and then i’d really like to get some new designs together. but i need to make some money first so i can afford to re-up my subscriptions to photoshop and illustrator, which i use to make my designs. right now i really can’t afford the subscriptions. so hopefully getting these designs up will generate some funds towards that goal.

also, i’ve just tonight launched my buy art! design, which has never been available before for purchase as a shirt. i made stickers of this design a while back and went so far as to get a few samples of the shirt made, to make sure it looked ok, but then never launched a shirt campaign. so i’m correcting that now! it’s a simple block letter design that’s bold and attention-getting. my samples were printed on black shirts and i think it looks best that way but i know folks have lots of opinions about having too many black shirts so there are other dark color options with the white lettering available. let the artists in your life know about it or better yet, gift them one!

more designs are on the way, and i have more updates coming for the blog. but that’s it for tonight. hope everyone’s doing as well as you can given this country’s rapid descent into authoritarianism. hang in there, and keep resisting.

  • RESIST stickers are in!

    RESIST stickers are in!

just a quick post to say that RESIST stickers are back in stock!

i’m in the process of setting up a big cartel web shop but it’s not quite ready yet so in the meantime, i’m happy to do this old school.

these stickers measure 5.5″ x 1.42″ so not as big as a traditional bumper sticker but big enough to read from a distance. they work great on cars but also scooters, motorcycles, skateboards, laptops, water bottles or anything else. they are uv-coated and weatherproof and fadeproof. they last forever – i still see lots of these all over town from 10 years ago when i first made them!

they will be $2 each. 3 for $5. 6 for $10. 9 for $15. 12 for $20. i will cover USPS first class postage for up to 10 stickers, which means i’ll throw them in an envelope with a stamp (or two). more than that and i’ll have to charge you a couple bucks because it’ll have to go in a padded envelope at first class package rate. if you want it to get there faster, like if you are hoping to stuff a stocking for christmas, i can send it priority mail if you want to pay for that, but not sure it’ll be guaranteed to get there. obviously if you want to pay for overnight or some other service like UPS or Fed Ex i’m happy to do so with the caveat that my pet work schedule is ramping up after this weekend so the closer it gets to christmas the less time i will have to deal with this. so get those orders in fast!

if you’re local to new orleans, just email me and we can work out a pick up/drop off and you can pay by cash or venmo/paypal.

venmo = @mags504 or paypal = artbymags@gmail.com. send them as friend payments so i don’t have to pay fees, please.

if you’re not in a hurry to get these, feel free to wait until after the new year when things aren’t as hectic. i won’t run out. i got a large order and will re-order as necessary. would love to see these all over again like i did during the asshole’s first term in office.

    spread the word!

  • winter 2020 update + artbymags face masks!

I guess I haven’t updated here in a long time. I always forget I have an art website because I don’t use it for direct commerce – it’s mostly just a blog. And my art/design biz has been on hold these last few months so I haven’t had anything to write about. But the quick update is: I had brain surgery (really) October 13th and I’ve been in recuperation mode ever since. I have not been working and have been focusing solely on my health – a privilege I’ve had thanks to my sweet friends setting up a GoFundMe for me prior to surgery and literally hundreds of folks in my community and networks chipping in to support me during this time. I am so humbled and grateful, and trying to take all the time I need to get back to normal.

I am making a very strong recovery, despite being left with a few nerve-related deficits. (My benign tumor that was 100% removed was on my brain stem and entwined with my 10th cranial nerve, or vagus nerve, which controls things like breathing and swallowing and speaking.) So I’m battling double vision and paralyzed vocal cords, but making slow steady progress via physical and speech therapy. It’s just a waiting game for the nerves to repair themselves, but I hope to be back to business as usual after the holidays.

My post-brain-surgery self hasn’t had a lot of physical/mental/creative energy to make art or do any actual printing, but sitting in front of a computer isn’t that taxing for me. So the wonders of technology have enabled me to set up a bunch of my designs on print on demand site Teespring, and now you can get some of your favorite artbymags designs on cloth face masks!

*I have ordered a sample to check for quality but it has not arrived yet, so I can’t tell you anything about the quality of the mask yet. Sorry! I will update when it arrives. But I’ve generally been pretty happy with everything I’ve gotten from Teespring so I’m hopeful they will be great!

I’ve also been adding all kinds of new weird products like pillows and fannypacks, as the designs allow, to my regular store. Not every design looks good on other kinds of merch, but if you visit my artbymags store on Teespring you’ll find lots of new stuff with old designs, in a ton of different colors. I’m still updating so check back often!

I’m hoping to get back to the making of art soon, but I’m having to slowly re-integrate various activities so as not to do too much too soon. But overall, I’m doing pretty amazing after such a major surgery so I’m trying to have patience with the process and just go with the flow.

Thanks for checking out my site and supporting my creative work.

    Happy holidays, everyone! Be safe!

  • #abolishICE protest graphic

i literally whipped this up last night after a very long day of work and finished it this morning before i went to work. i wanted to have SOMETHING that i had created for this big immigration-themed protest tomorrow, though i’m now realizing i won’t have time to cut it as a stencil and make any posters. but i will try to print at least one out on my fancy new large format color printer and see what they look like, just so i can have one to carry.

this one above is the rectangular version, the original version. but then when i went to put it up on facebook as my profile pic, i realized it needed to be square so i stretched it out and made a low-res square version as well (below). i think it actually looks better as a square but for printing purposes i think the rectangle will probably work better.

if i can figure out how to upload a high res file to my website, i will offer it as a free download. stay tuned. feel free to snatch and/or share one of these versions for online use. i’d appreciate credit or a link back to this site or my fb or insta profiles, but it’s not absolutely necessary.
