well it’s proof of just how busy i have been that i didn’t even remember to write a blog post in advance of my pop-up open studio/porch art sale which happened yesterday. i started one last week but never finished. thankfully i did at least remember to tell folks about it via social media, so we ended up with a steady stream of friends stopping by all day to shop, with a few random strangers mixed in.

and the best news is, the sale was a crazy success! i had invited my friend julie tweeter to set up with her beautiful handmade wood items (she had ornaments, kitchen utensils and cutting boards) and my neighbor dolores who does really cool things with wallpaper and fabric samples. it was very laid back. i dragged a lot of my old paintings and prints as well as recent stuff out from my studio in the back of the house onto the porch and a table on the lawn, and had a clothing rack with tshirts and a smaller table with prints and stickers. there was something for everyone!

all of us had what we each considered wild success, in terms of sales, more than any of us had expected. and the weather was gorgeous. people brought us snacks and treats! one sweet friend brought me flowers! and folks walked away with unique handmade gifts for themselves and others in their lives. win win!
i’ve done this kind of a sale in the past, usually in my backyard which is adjacent to my studio. but doing it on the front porch and yard was so much better. the cats weren’t real happy about being locked up in the back of the house, but it allowed me use the living room for spillover and have the door open all day. it was all perfect. and i made more than i probably ever would have made dragging my stuff across town to a market, with a lot less stress!
anyways. it was a good day and i’m glad julie and dolores also had a good day.
and now it’s back to the grind of the busiest time of year for my pet business. this was a rare hiatus from that and from all the activist/organizing work i’ve been doing and it was much needed. hopefully in the new year i can figure out a way to have more balance in my life between the many disparate things i do.
happy holidays everyone!
