this piece represents a breakthrough moment for me in my many-year quest to master intuitive abstract painting. it came together over the course of a couple of days, which is relatively fast for my usual process. the initial layers were made with my fingers, purely playing with paint, channelling my inner child; after that dried, subsequent layers were floated with trowels and palette knives or scraped on with paint shields and credit cards all in one afternoon in a flurry of energy. a comb made the circular shape in the lower right. many swirling, looping lines were carved into the wet paint and more were added with graphite and colored pencil. grey latex house paint was dripped down as a final touch. there’s a lot of texture to this piece, with early layer bits showing through.
